TAPI

The Microsoft Telephony Application Program Interface (TAPI) is an emerging
set of technologies that enables voice, data, and video collaboration over
existing local/wide area networks, the Internet, and common telephone lines.
Microsoft introduced TAPI as an integral component of the Windows
operating system and continues to evolve the technology in current and
future releases.
To provide telephony support, manufacturers and independent software
vendors distribute TAPI service providers to control hardware such as fax
cards, ISDN cards, modems, and telephones.
Control Products Unlimited, Inc. has incorporated TAPI technology into our
VoiceAlarm offering supporting alarm retrieval and acknowledgement using
a common telephone and touch tone keypad.  Compliance with the TAPI
standard allows advanced alarming features over inexpensive and readily
available modem hardware.
